Letters from Annapolis: Midshipmen Write Home, 1848-1969
Published in Hardcover by United States Naval Inst. (September, 1998)
Author: Anne Marie Drew
Average review score:

A Great Historical Reference
Since the collection of "Letters from Annapolis" spans a period of more than 120 years, they cannot help but reflect the events that shaped our nation. For example, the letters of Oliver Batcheller offers a student's view of the news surrounding the start of the Civil War. Upon the bombardment of Fort Sumpter, he writes "the Academy is likely to be rid of those who do not wish to resign just now, and most of the Sourtherners have tendered their resignations." But the book had some lighter sides too. Regardless of the year, letters to parents often included passages like "thanks much for the money you sent" or " believe me...it wasn't my fault!" Thanks to editor Ann Marie Drew for a great work. I would not only recommend "Letters" to any history buff but believe it would be especially valuable to a prospective student wishing to get a closer look at the life of a midshipman

Spectacular Stories
I have read this book over and over again because it is unbelievable. It has letters from numerous former midshipmen from almost the time the 'Naval School' opened, till the time when a man became a Naval Academy midshipman in 1969. It is a great read and it has great details of the life of midshipmen.

Mother's Wisdom!
What a fantastic book! A must buy for every mother to her daughter. When your daughters leave home it's a nice book to remind them of all the things you worked years to instill into them. Very touching, light-hearted, and every so true.

Love Pearls Messages from a Mother to her Daughter
Love Pearls is a book that every Mom should read with her daughter, just alittle at a time, so it can be savored. Excerpts should be put in college allowance check envelopes, lunchboxes and under pillows. The messages inspire and foster that special mother/daughter bond. I read it with my 10 year old, it made us laugh and cry and hug. I loved it so much I bought copies for my sisters and for their daughters. I think every daughter should have a copy!

Good decisions from good parenting
This book was outstanding! It is written in an enjoyable fashion - totally entertaining. It is agreat book for parents and children to read together. It contains great parenting tips woven into a wonderful story about growing-up. It illustrates how the ideas in a child's head will cause them to make strong, productive, positive decisions as they travel the journey of childhood, young adulthood, and parenthood.

Great biography
This was a great biography and is good for children to read. It tells about Drew Bledsoe's complete football career as well as his childhood and family life. You feel like you know Drew Bledsoe personally after finishing this book.

Out and About at the Dairy Farm

EXCELLENT BOOK!
This book is extremely well-written with the elementary student in mind. It is both fun and fact-filled! The kids don't even know they are learning! I am an Enlgish teacher and I used this book in my class with great results. It gave me a week's worth of activities and discussions. It is a great preparatory tool for a field trip and also includes a delicious and easy recipe for ice cream- and clean-up is a breeze! The kids absolutely loved it! I will use it every year and I even amaze my friends with my homemade ice cream! Keep writing Andy Murphy!

What's not to love about dairy farming?
A concise, informative & amusing book that earned an enthusiastic 2 thumbs up from my preschoolers! From a teacher's perspective, the text reads easily and keeps the children's focus (no easy feat with a group of 5 year olds). From the child's perspective, the ice cream making activity was a huge hit (& easy enough for each child to do with minimal assistance), and being able to outwit your parents in dairy trivia (what is a flink?) is fun! I bought the book to support a science unit lesson plan & it was such a hit that we've ended up planning a field trip to a local dairy farm in the Spring. I'm very pleased with this excellent addition to my classroom library.
